2010 Firemen's Parade, Afton Central School Band

To kick off the 122nd Afton Fair on Wednesday we have the annual Firemen's Parade featuring local fire departments, auxiliaries, school marching bands, organizations and much more. Following the parade, Firematics demonstrations and games by the local volunteer firemen commence. At 10:00 pm we close out the first night of the fair with our fireworks display, sponsored in part by NBT Bank.
Miss Afton Fair Contest
The Miss Afton Fair Contest will be held at the stage starting at 1:00 pm. Check in is from 10:00 am until 12:00. There is no fee to enter.
Gary Jennings, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Gary was born in Sidney , New York and started his singing in church at an early age .Gary sang lead in several bands like the Country Gamblers, Desperado's and Gary Lee And The Ectasy in upstate NY. He has traveled from state to state, singing with various bands from Florida to Texas , where he sang at Gilley's in Pasadena and was fortunate enough to meet Mickey Gilley. Gary went to Nashville in 2001 where he performed in Tootsie's and in the Nashville Palace. Through the years Gary has opened for many National Acts such as: Johnny Paycheck, Dan Seals, Hank Williams III, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band (Eddie and the Cruisers), Conway Twitty, Charlie Pride, Jimmy Van Zant at the Harley Davidson Rendezvous in Indian Country and many other great artists.
Gary's show is a variety of different kinds of music from classic country to classic rock, 50's - 90's and some new country. He has released three CD's of original music. He has won many awards and has been inducted into the New York Country Hall of Fame in Cortland, NY.

Harness Racing
The annual Harness Racing event will kick off at 1:00 pm on the Harness Racing Track. Features races for 2 year olds, 3 year olds, 4 years and up, trotters and pacers.

Thursday Night Thunder, 7:30 pm
The Afton Fair and Millenia Entertainment are happy to present "Thursday Night Thunder" at the Afton Fair. The show will include Steer Wrestling, Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Barrel Racing and Breakaway Roping. Admission is $10 advance, $13 day of show in addition to fair admission. Join us on Friday, July 22 for a night of racing action brought to you by local promoters Jamie Page and Ron Ford of J & R Motorsports Promotions LLC. The show will include racing from the regular I-88 Speedways Friday night show of Modifieds, Sportsman’s, Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds and Four Cylinder Front Wheel Drive . As always, there will be a 50/50 Drawing where half the money goes to a lucky fan and the other half to the I-88 Speedway drivers point fund. Come and experience some of the area’s best door handle to door handle racing action with the added benefit of all the other activities that the Afton Fair has to offer for the same low admission price of $10.00. As usual, hot laps start at 6:15 p.m. with racing starting at 7:00 p.m.
There will be a $3.00 admission charge to enter the Afton Fair, children age 5 and under are free, and a $10.00 admission charge to enter the Grandstand. Children 8 and under are free for the Grandstand only. For more information about I-88 Speedway visit their website.
Kaitlyn & John Jackson
Kaitlyn Jackson is a very talented local 13 year old who has performed extensively in the area with her father, John. Together, they have performed at The Afton Fair numerous times over the last few years. They also performed at the 2010 Memorial Day Parade in Afton. She won first place in vocals in the 2010 New York State Fair Talent Contest. In the summer of 2010 she worked with the Artist Development Network in Nashville. While there she wrote 18 songs. She is releasing a CD of original songs this summer.

The Blue Sea Turtles, (formerly The Blue Turtles) is Alternative Indie Rock Band from the Unadilla area with a unique mixture of Folk, Rock, and Reggae sounds. Blue Sea Turtles evolved out of the cover band Simplex in the late eighties. Two of the founding members singer/song writer John Spychalski and lead guitarist Dave Sickler are in the current lineup. New to the band are Brian Wells on drums and Brian Ferarra on bass guitar.
The band recently released a CD of original songs called, "Catching a Wave" on June 25, 2011 at their CD release performance at The Autumn Café in Oneonta.

The Catskill Garden Tractor Pullers and Tractors of Yesteryear will hold simultaneous pulls during the Afton Fair starting at 5:00 pm in front of the Grandstands on Saturday, July 23. There is no admission charge for this show!

Shawn and Hailey are a rising talent in the local modern country music scene. Both are from Harpursville, New York and have been performing since a very young age. Recently, Shawn's brother Cody and Hailey's brother Carter joined them and have been performing as a group ever since.
Shawn and Hailey have performed locally at the Coventry Blueberry Festival, The Canoe Regatta, the Black Bear Winery, Belden Hill Golf Course and many other locations. They have opened for Cassidy Lynn, Jason Michael Carrol, John Michael Montgomery and Josh Gracin. They have also made several trips to Nashville where they performed at Tootsie's, The Listening Room Café, Legend's Corner and The Stage. They won at the 29th Annual Colgate Country Showdown New York State Final. They recently released a 6 song EP, "After the Rain".

Matt and Bruce Beadle are local musicians who have been performing together for many years. They have opened for Josh Gracin, Toby Keith, Tracy Lawrence, Gary Allen, Marc Wills, Trent Wilmont, Emerson Drive and others. They released their cd, "To The Moon And Back" in 2010. They performed at the New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs Annual Conference in Rochester in January of 2011.
We welcome The Beadle Brothers to the 88BC/Afton Sertoma Stage to as the sole performers for The Afton Fair Community Appreciation Concert on Saturday, July 23 2011 from 6:00 pm to 10:00pm. This is a free concert.

If there are enough cars we may run a 4 cylinder feature. There will be a $3 admission fee in addition to general fair admission. Park Place Idol Winners
The Park Place Idol contest is held in Norwich NY. Three contestants from the 2011 contest will perform at The Afton Fair this year including Marty Kuhn, Kathy Robinson and Joyce Arboit.
