Rules for the Pony Pull
- This will be a boat pull.
- Weight classes are as follows:
- The time for measuring is 2 minutes
- Weigh in time will be from 11:30 am until pull starts (1:00 pm)
- Weight checks:
- After the scales are officially opened, teamsters may go accross the scales two (2) times, (once for a check and the 2nd time for the official weight)
- All ponies must be weighed before the pull starts
- The Weight Master Assistant will hold the ponies while being weighed
- Entry Fee - $10.00 per team per class. Fees must be paid before each class.
- Payoff for both the 1400# class and the Free for All are as follows:
- 1st Place - $100
- 2nd Place - $90
- 3rd Place - $80
- 4th Place - $70
- 5th Place - $60
- 6th Place - $50
- 7th Place - $40
- 8th Place - $30
- 9th Place - $20
- 10th Place - $10
- Third hooks will be spotted at starting point only.
- There will be a maximum of two (2) people plus the driver to help hook.
- There will be heading of the ponies except in an emergency.
- A driving lane will consist of two ropes running parallel, approximately 15 feet apart.
- Any pulling pony that crosses of the ropes after being called on will lose that hook.
- Once the team has been called, the teamster has a maximum of 2 mininum to complete his 1st hook on that load.
- If the hook cannot be completed in that time he loses his hook.
- The time is 1 minute on the second hitch afte the judge indicated the start.
- The time on the third hook is 2 minutes.
- A maximum of 10 feet will be considered a qualified pull for any one of the three hooks, unless otherwise stated.
- The team is allowed to unhook from the boat between first and second hook with a one (1) minuted time limit. The time starts when the pin is moved up.
- The teamster may pass his second hook.
- In case of a tie, the next best distance determines the position.
- If the boat is moved either forward or sideways a distance of 6" or more after hooking it will be called a draw.
- Any driver or helper using any unsportsmanlike conduct for showing cruelty to their team during the pull or on the premises will be excluded from pulling that day, at the discretion of the judge. He will collect no prize money
- In the event of a breakdown, which is the separation of equipment, there is a 5 minute time limit on each hook. Or, if need be, go to the end of the line up.
- If during the contest a pair of ponies run away, free from the driver, he is automatically excluded from the contest and will not be eligible for any prize money.
- No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the arena.
- All decisions of the judges shall be final.
- All hookers must remain behind the eveners and remain silent.
- There will be one line judge in front side of the machine or sled and one in the rear.
- No mechanical whistles or swinging of the lines, stomping feet, flagging of hands or hats.
- Any teamster who intentionally goes over the ropes is disqualified for that class.
- Pulling position will be determined by the sign in position.
- Everybody is to help unload the boat after each class and helps clean up the arena at the end of the pull.
- Place money will not be distributied until after all cleaning is done and the arena is left as we found it.
****All animals entering the Afton Fairgrounds must have a Veterinary Certificate proving Rabies Vaccination is current *********!
****All premium checks must be cashed within 60 days of the closing of the Afton Fair. If not cashed, said monies will be considered property of the Afton Driving Park & Agricultural Association, Inc.
